Ramona Batsford Bendin is a professional artist who has been painting for over 40 years. She works primarily in oil, and is well known for her seascapes and marshland scenes of the East Coast. Her understanding of water movement and the effects of light can be seen in every painting.

Artistic Genes

The artist is the daughter of cartoonist Ben Batsford who inked the 1920s comic strip, Little Annie Rooney, as well as Edgar Bergen’s pre-war Charlie McCarthy strips. Not surprisingly, Ms. Bendin began drawing at an early age. She attended Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and later studied at the School of Visual Arts and Art Students League in New York City.

She has continued to explore concepts with other artists including the late George Gach, David Leffel, Joe Hing Lowe, and Ferdinand Petrie. Recently, she has been working with plein air artist Perry Austin and now often paints outdoors along the Intracoastal Waterway and other Carolina locations.

Throughout her career, she has received many tributes including numerous Awards of Excellence and Best in Show honors.
